could be the P in a circle is a maker mark, if the piece is imported? Not necessarily a date letter.

British Import Marks

Hi Peter - yes, made on import. The right hand mark is for
UK - London on 22ct, 18ct, 15ct, 12ct & 9ct Gold on IMPORTED Wares - ca 1933 - 1975
