Dress Ornamentations and Dress Clips by: Anonymous
Hi thanks for writing in. Unfortunately the image of the mark didn't appear. Concerning functionality, it looks to me, from the clip on the reverse, that this item could be a dress ornamentation. Small ornaments, or clips, were made to be worn with similar pieces attached to a women's dress.
They are sometimes referred to as Dress Clips. Pairs of dress clips and fur clips (which have points) were often mounted in removable pinback frames to be worn together as a single brooch and were called "clip-pins".
Valerie Hammond covers this area particularly well in her book, All That Glitters.
Some dress clips were worn in a small group, made en-suite but often they were made in large numbers, sometimes accompanied by one larger and more ornate pieces.
