Master carvers usually initial their work but then again people in general like to carve their names into all kinds of things!
I was watching a video on YouTube recently featuring Graham Hancock the best selling author and he related the true story of how he stumbled upon (literally) the initials of his Grandfather on one of the stones at the top of the Great Pyramid. His grandfather had climbed the great pyramid at Giza in Egypt Unknown to Graham many decades earlier.
