I think a pearl's symbozim is relative to the person's cultural background.
In some cultures, pearls are thought to represent tears, and brides are cautioned against wearing them on their wedding day, in order to prevent their newly married lives starting with sadness and tears. Interestingly though, there is counter cultural superstition in which pearls take the place of a bride’s real tears, thus eliminating any sadness and leading to a happy marriage.
