Hi Barbara thank you for writing in with the following hallmark question:
"I recently inherited some jewelry. One piece has me stumped. It bears the 916 which, I understand, is 22K. It also has what appears to be a rat facing left and some other numbers that I can't quite make out; perhaps 50.41. So, what country and what do the marks other than the 916 mean?"
Barbara, even from this photo we can see the richness of color of the high carat gold, 22K, 22ct or 916 (parts per 1000) or 91.6% gold content.
The town of Perpignam in France have a rat facing left as their town mark.
