Vintage Bagpipe Pin

I received this bagpipe brooch in the early 1950s. It's about 1-1/2" by 2", and it has a rollover clasp. A rectangular plate on the back is marked "BEAD STERLING". Does anyone know what that means? I Googled, but could find nothing.
