it's tricky pricing costume jewellery, is it worth a valuation or not?
Well, it all depends bascially on its "sought-afterness". Material costs don't figure much in the valuation equation when it comes to costume jewellery. Avid collectors don't mind splurging in this department for this "desirability" factor. The Trifari Eagle Brooch is very rare and much sought after among the collectors of Costume Jewelry and it sold at ebay auction for $7,500! A similar Eagle example with wings made of Lucite sold for somewhere around $17,000 figure mark, at auction. A staggering figure when you consider there are no precious metals or gemstones in the fabrication, and FYI that sold years ago!
Elborah, your Trifari Costume Jewelry set looks fantastic - I like it - but Im not sure if it's a Rare Trifari piece, and highly sought after by collectors. and will fetch top dollars like the Trifari eagle brooch.
Have a look at the costume jewelry online price guide at the following link. You can also see the Trifari Eagle Brooch there also:
Elborah, my recommendation would be to look at price guides and compare, use your instinct and if still in doubt get an on-line appraisal carried out. Often with valuations, the expert provides more than the value but fascinating details and history.
