It's not a fruit, vegetable, crazy octopus, or an acorn but a vintage SUNFLOWER Brooch by Trifari. During the 1960s TRIFARI seemed fixated with flowers, in particular - Sunflowers, and for very good reason. They are a fascinating subject and what better way to enjoy them for years while you wear them!
Sunflowers bear bright yellow ray florets at the outside and yellow or maroon (also known as a brown/red) disc florets inside. During their growth, sunflowers tilt during the day to face the sun but stop once they begin blooming. This tracking of the sun in young sunflower heads is called heliotropism. By the time they are mature, sunflowers generally face east.
