Tiffany & Co Hallmark Question
by: Anonymous

Hi Vera thanks for writing in with the following Tiffany & Co hallmark question:

"This is about silver, not gold, but I'm hoping I can at least get some direction. I am helping my 95 year old father dispose of his possessions. Because he was an attorney, his late wife gave him a present of:

- Silver spoon with ring at top, maybe a sommelier tasting spoon

- Size: 7" long x 2 5/8" with 5/8" silver ring at top
-Weight: approximately 2.8 oz

- Markings: on back "Tiffan"y ? (this is very worn and even under magnification you can only see the faint Tiffan...), "Sterling", "T", "66 2"

- Design: There is a ring at the top under that is a rough diamond shape design of "Blind Justice" with the Scales of Justice, some flowers 2 cherubs holding torches(?).

The stem is about 1" and has some leaves in the design. The bowl of the spoon is about 2 1/2" x 2 3/16" and is plain on the front except at the very top for about 1" where the design from the top extends into the bowl of the spoon and there apppears to be an owl.

In the back, the top is concave and plain, them the "stem" between the top and the bowl is etched and joins to the bowl and comes to a point. Part of the back of the bowl is also etched in a design. I have more pictures, if that would be helpful.

We have taken this to a couple of places to try to get some idea of what it is and the possible value. We were offered $30 for the value of the silver at one place, another offered to sell it on eBay, and another had no idea and had never seen anything like it.

Obviously, I have no intention of selling it for $30, but I could certainly use some direction. Dad is in a nursing home and can use all the help he can get. "

Vera what incredible craftsmanship, a genuine Tiffany & Co piece of fine Silver with history and provenance attached. There are fake Tiffany & Co pieces circulating.

Ok. If this is Tiffany & Co (Grosjean & Woodward) it is rare. One reason that makes me suspect it may possibly be Tiffany & Co Grosjean and Woodward are the numbers that you can't quite make out. The number 66?2 is the Model Number.

Could you put the mark under loupe again, in good light and see if you can make out the number 0 in the model number- so it will read now - 6602. Below the model number (which is probably centered) under Tiffany & Co can you see any faint traces of the letters G & W to the right or left (or both) underneath the Tiffany & Co Model Number? Let me know your findings and will go from there.

best wishes,
Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
