Alaskan pearl?

OK. I have a knotted strand necklace I purchase at a garage sale for $5.00. There is a sticker on the bag which says alaskan pearls. The strand is quite heavy, and the beads are very uniform in size and shape. They almost appear to be hematite. Is there a way to identify a black pearl, and/or what my strand could be? I have attached a photo.
