Hi, i am trying to identify a 9c gold band with multi coloured star set gems all the way around. It also has etched crosses inbetween the gemstones. I cannot make out the full marking because of the stones. I can seee _W 9 .375 M _ I am quite certain it is S&W but clarification would be great. Also for the date

Found ring by: Anonymous
Found a ring metal detecting marked S@W which I believe is slade and wolf its 22k and has a date stamp I which I believe is 1946. It weighs 5.2g. It has Lucky stamped inside and also 627 which I believe is the number for good fortune. My question is would of it been a wedding ring or a gamblers ring?.it’s decorated around the side and not plane in fact it’s beautiful.

Not Platinum Test by: Yvonne
A magnet test will determine that metal is NOT platinum. Platinum is not magnetic. If the ring is attracted to a magnet, you will know it is Not platinum
If you notice a slight magnetic pull, it is more likely that the metal is white gold mixed with nickel.

Does anyone know Mr Paul Slade or Mr Henry? by: Anonymous
My grandfather is 81, of Indian origin and Mr Slade and Mr Henry looked after him extremely well and took him on his first job in the UK in 1961. If anyone knew anyone related to them, it would be just phenomenal for them to meet!

Hi I have a wedding ring passed down from my mother made by S&W it has the most unusual crosses with a line through it and them separated by a line repeatedly going all around the ring. Would have been purchased in the early 60s. I would love to know what this shape was called if anyone has any ideas? Thank you.

What stone? S & W Family heirloom by: Anonymous
Hi all,
I have been passed down a family heirloom from my father who recently passed away which was given to him by his father who passed away not long after the second world war. The stamp on the ring is S&W, and it has a large clear stone, could it be a cubic zirconia or white sapphire or would it be a diamond? Would anyone know what stones were used by the company back then?

First Slade and wolf apprentice by: Mandy Jayne Richardson
Hi, My father John Richardson was the first apprentice to be hired at Slade and Wolf. He was 14 years old. He worked there for 7 years before joining the Air Force He started at 12 -13 Grenville street and then moved to Hatton Gardens. He used to cycle to Kutchinskys with a delivery of thousands of pounds of jewellery in his pockets. Those were the days!! He made rings for his mother and his wife including her wedding ring. I wear all of them to this day. My father is still alive and takes great delight in the generations that will wear his work. Beautiful craftsmanship and memories.

Engagement ring by: Anna
I still have my engagement ring made by Slade and Wolfe, it was bought in 1974 from Cornells in Maidstone. It is 18ct white gold with four small diamonds in and is quite heavy. The price we paid for it was £40.00 (a month's pay for us). Will never part with it as it is so beautiful.

Mr Leonard cooper by: miss cooper
Mr l cooper was my grandfather he was a hand engraver and watchmaker . He worked for Mr Slade and Mr Wolfe as an engraver He worked from his work shop at home .every Saturday morning the postman would deliver a small brown box filled with plain wedding bands my grandfather could be heard chipping away at the rings sometimes into the early hours. His workshop was my playground .I used to practice engraving on some of his copper plates alas not to a good standard. Wide engraved wedding bands became less fashionable And slowly the work dryed up I am happy to say that my own wedding ring was made By Slade and Wolfe and the last ring my grand father ever engraved with the pattern of orange blossom.

Receipts for rings 1957 by: Ross Jordan
After my wife’s passing two months ago, June 2014, I was going through some old receipts and found the receipt for her engagement and wedding rings. It shows I paid $95.00 and $28.00 (33-5-0 and 9-16-6) for them at the PX at South Ruislip on 20 February 1957. After 57 years of our marriage I can still remember buying them. I was station at RAF Chicksands and would frequently travel down to RAF Northolt and South Ruislip on business. It was during one of these trips that I purchased them. Later in the states I bought her the Eternity Ring (I think that is the name for it) to match. The rings and receipts now belong to our granddaughter.
Should anyone be interested I could email a copy of the receipts

wedding ring & PLATINUM Hallmarking by: steve
Hi there,
Slade and Woolfe were a very famous maker of wedding rings in the UK. They first registered with the London Assay Office in 1947, though I do believe they've ceased trading now.
Its only been compulsory to hallmark platinum in the UK since January 1st 1975, so items prior to that were simply stamped "PLAT"

S & W Info by: Anonymous
Hi Jack
S&W is the maker's mark for Slade and Woolf, who made wedding rings in the 1980s and probably the decades either side.
