It looks to be an Italian hallmark. The numbers could either be the Italian maker. Or a gold mark. Is the item 9 carat gold? Can you test it yourself? How did you come to acquire it? These answers will help you eliminate the possibility of a pseudo Italian mark on a US made item.
Thanks for contacting Antique Jewelry Investor in one of the most important times in history for collectors and investors of estate and antique Jewelry.
Warm Regards

Italian Maker's Mark by: Yvonne
Good morning/evening
One of the most recognisable styles of maker's marks worldwide on contemporary jewelry, is the Italian maker's mark.
In 1968 revisions to the maker's marks modified the frame-shapes and the order sequence of core elements. The frame-shape was redesigned as an elongated hexagon with pointed ends. The revised order of the core elements placed a 5-pointed star on the left, the maker's registration number in the centre, and the two regional identification numbers in one to three digits. While in many regions today there are four-digit maker's identification numbers in use.
The goldsmiths from the province of Vicenza (VI) alone produce more than 65% of all the manufactured precious metal items in Italy.
Thank you for writing in

The Star on Italian Jewelry by: Yvonne
Hi Sherlyn
concerning the star mark on your ring it could be either 1. Transitional Mark Following certain decrees of 1934 and their implementation in 1935, all jewelers and retailers in Italy had their pre-existing stock items of gold and silver stamped with a transitional STAR (*) mark. (five-pointed) This mark, used only until 1938, made pre-1934 items legal for trade.
2. In 1968 the frameshape was redesigined as an elongated hexagon with pointed ends. The revised order of the core elements placed a 5-pointed star on the left, the maker's registration number in the center, and the two regional identification letters in the right. Some references show the maker's identication numbers in one to three digits while there are 4-digit maker's marks in use in many regions of Italy today.
Hope this helps to clarify the star mark on Italian gold and shed a bit more light on Itlaian maker's or sponsor's registration numbers.
Kind Regards Yvonne

Italian Gold by: Carmel
I have been doing some research for a piece of jewellery that I have and noticed your question. The 750 is for 18 carat gold. I think the star 1 AR mark maybe the hallmark for Gori & Zucchini Spa company in Arezzo. They are the oldest registered gold makers in Arezzo hence the number 1, AR standing for Arezzo. They also go by the name of Uno Aerre Spa. Hope this information is correct and can be of some use to you. Maybe you can google them or contact them for more info.

Italian Hallmarks by: Pete
polygogon with 'star' star / number / province is an official italian mark. The Laws 30 January 1968 (Legge 30 gennaio 1968 n. 46) and 30 December 1970 n. 1496 (D.P.R. 30 Dicembre 1970 n. 1496) introduced new hallmarks for silver and precious metals. The mark was modified to a polygogonal shape and a star was added on the left.
AR is the city mark, the abbreviation for the province of Arezzo in Italy.
