Found in a box of old things in a small church thrift store by: Anonymous
I found this beautiful ruby earrings that look like they are from the 1950s earlier the only thing that sets it up Heart from jewelry I’ve seen during that time period is that there is a emblem on the back of chandelier ruby earrings. The emblem on the back is a circle with a raised or convexed star on top of The raised circle. It is very well-made strong the Rubys heard of a gorgeous quality. I was just wondering if you might have any idea If this is an emblem of a brand?

I have a 14k gold bracelet dated 1913 with a star (open design) within each triangle of the star there is another picture, the entire star is in a circle and the name BOWEN OR BOWIN. This piece was passed to me from my grandmother who imigrated from Russia. I am very interested to know some history. Any help would be appreciated

Rubies or Rhinestones? by: Anonymous
Phyllis
it's hard to tell, even gemologists have a hard time these days as the imitations stones are so close to the real thing.
Basically if there are NO inclusions, lean towards rhinestones or glass imitations. Inclusions are material that gets trapped inside natural rubies and gemstones during their formation.
If you go to Jewelry Resources you will find a link there - GEMSTONE TREATMENT REPORT - have a look in there for starters, you can find information on all types of ruby look-alikes, Ruby composite, Ruby glass filled, Ruby Flame fusion and lots more and good photos too.

Rhinestones but How can U Tell? by: Anonymous
Chris, just would like to know how did U know if they're rhinestones or not? I have a vintage brooch with pink stones, and I can't figure out if they are pink rhinestones or rubies or some other type of pink gemstone.
