South African Gold

Roughly 20 years ago my dad bought me back a 1oz South African Gold Company (stamped) braclet in bar form. I have in earnest looked for a carat stamp on it but to no avail. Could you advise me whether there would be a carat stamp on this or advise how to tell the carat form?
