S&D by: Anonymous
here is what I think - the S&D is Steele and Dolphin; the sideways anchor is Birmingham, UK, obviously the 750 means 18k gold and the letter means what year (mine, which has the same as what most of you are describing is a C and means 1977 - which is approximately when my husband bought me this ornate, antique style 18k gold ring with a garnet and diamonds new from one of Detroit highest end department stores at the time). For perspective, I think this ring retailed for $1,500 in 1977/78 if that helps. I don't recall what the crown means but I have that too.

S & D by: Anonymous
Hey,
If you search 'steele and dolphin' you find the S & D hallmark:
i have a ring with S&D in circles, then a crown stamp, 18, anchor and letter Z. i know the anchor means it was asscessed in birmingham, UK, and looking at their website the shape of the Z seems to only match a ring from 1848, i am very doubtfull this ring is that old, as it also misses the duty head stamp from this time. has anyone found info about these rings?

Sapphire and Diamond, Gold/White Gold Ring by: Holly Archbold
Hi There, My mother has just given me a Sapphire and Diamond, Gold and White Gold Ring. On the inside of the band it has S&D, then it has a Crown in the square, in the next square there is the number 18, in the following aquare is a sideways Anchor and at the end box is an S. On the other side of the band is the number 5. I was going to upload some photos but I didn't know how. I was wondering if maybe you could help me out. Thanks alot. Holly Archbold

Ruby cluster ring by: Jane
To be more specific: the ring does not look old, I have been wearing it for 10 years or so but before that it looked brand new. The gold is yellow, a bit yellower than other yellow gold rings I own. The markings on the inside say S&D with a circular impression surrounding the writing. And yes, there is a "&" between the letters. Next there is a crown marking surrounded by a square impression. Next, the number 18 in a square impression. Next a sideways anchor in a square impression and finally a "w" in a square impression. The stones are rubies, not believed to be synthetic as one fell out once and the jeweler replaced it with a real ruby. There is also a small round cut diamond in the center.

S & D by: nanlie
I don't exactly know what the S & D stands for but a jeweler said that it is a hallmark from Europe and means that the gold is solid and the 725 would mean it is 18K gold. I could be wrong but when I inherited jewelry from my mother and a friend, I found a couple of rings with the same stamps and that's what I was told.

I have a very similar problem! by: Marie james
Ring looks old - is a plain gold 22 wedding band - has no stones weighs 8g - all other symbols are the same as your lady with the S&D ring In mine - the S & D are each in separate circles - then the crown, 22, sideways anchor and capital N. I have been led to believe by my great uncle (who I inherited the ring from) that it was very old, but a cursory glance on a hallmark website says 1967. When I came to look for the maker, your website popped up with virtually the same question! Would you mind emailing me back with your thoughts? Many thanks marie.j.x.james@btinternet.com

S D Makers Marks or UK Pseudomarks? by: Anonymous
Hi Jane thank you for your question.
OK. Some US marks resemble UK marks and are called pseudomarks. Your marks describe like a set of British hallmarks that that have 3-5 Marks, not necessarily aligned or oriented the same way. However, we can't be certain without seeing the marks OR if you are unable to upload a photo, we need more details such as:
Is there a cartouche shape behind the marks? What is the shape of the cartouche ? Oval, rectangle, etc.
Is there an actual ampersand (&) between the S and D ?
Does the ring LOOK old? Basic question, but some people forget this basis test.
You are welcome to upload a photo of the marks in a follow-up submission. Please use "SD Makers Marks" in the subject heading so that we can assign to your question.
