Hi Kelley thanks for writing in with the following hallmark question:

"We have a ring in the family, a gold signet ring with what i can only describe as a lightening strike surrounded by a circle on the top. The only markings inside the ring are in triangles, one an 18k the other what i thought was 75 degrees ( small circle ) but what must be 750.

There are no other hallmarks. Just wondered if you had any idea of the era it came from and value? Any idea on the markings on top of the ring and also, is it genuine gold?"

OK Kelley, based on your description, yes, it appears to be genuine solid gold. 18K or 18ct or 750 (parts per 1000) or 75% gold. (Most quality pieces are 18ct. Minimum gold standard for sale in Italy.)

The letter K not ct indicates this ring is most likely US made.

I'm leaning towards, H. KROLL & Co. (on 18K Gold Rings, Manufacturing Jewelers, Providence, RI, USA) - ca 1898 - 1914

Can't be certain though without proper examination.

best wishes,
