I have heard of natural baroque pearls having what appears to be a “crack” slightly under the surface of the pearl, if you know what I mean. It is a natural occurring phenomena rather than caused from being dropped or mishandled.

That's unfortunate but some baroque pearls do have tiny fissures or cracks - did you only just notice this?
