Real or Fake Pearls

I was given a pearl necklace that used to be my grandmothers. She was born and raised in England. It's a double strand necklace. Pearls stay pretty cool. And are a little rough when I run against teeth. Clasp says made in England. Could they be real? If so, what are pearls worth now a days?
