why did the jeweler think they were imitation pearls? This will help a lot! For instance if he showed you a reamed out plastic bead,while he was examining the drill hole of the pearl, where the thread goes through, then there's no question they are synthetics.
What made you think they were genuine pearls? Oral family history of documentation?

I can feel your disappointment. It is too hard to see the pearls in the photo. When you say you thought they were "real pearls" do you mean you thought they were Cultured Pearls? And did your Jeweler happen to give you his reasons why he thought these were fake pearls? You can read how to identify cultured pearls...
If you are still in doubt, get another opinion from a jeweler who handles pearls on a regular basis and not all jewelers do! Also in-store is preferable.
