Please identify this style of pearl neckless.

Multi strand of pearls with cotton string. Clasp is marked 'Germany'- the only mark on the clasp. The size of the pearls looks identical. Is it possible that given the size/shape of the pearls and no mark that they could be real? Also, do you think these are pre WWII or after 1990. They are so small and close together, it is hard to do the 'tooth test'. Also, what is this style of 'twisted' beading called?
