I think you mean a pearl shortener. You can also use a cameo brooch to shorten pearls and then the cameo jewelry becomes a feature that you can wear at either the back, front or the side of the strands of pearls. However, you want to wear it. The combinations of pearl colours and different types of cameo are endless. I wear my long Tahitian black pearls doubled up and held together in place with a dark blue Wedgwood cameo brooch with a secure fastening - the mount is a shiny sterling silver mount and looks wonderful with the sheen of the pearls. I wear the cameo brooch at the back of the necklace - which is worn as a double strand of pearls and I love this combination.
