Thanks so much for your quick response and help - I have more pictures, but I am not sure they will be any help (or how to post them to be honest!) My Grandmother said that she thought it might be from NYC, but she couldn't be sure. From some more digging around it seems to match a J.R. Wood & Sons wedding band perfectly (http://www.illusionjewels.com/albums/wood19236.jpg). I haven't had it tested yet. Thanks so much again!

I can see the difficulty you are having trying to decipher these marks. It's not clear if these marks are letters - is it three x's in a row or a stylized K in the sequence? Hard to find a place to start research - more photos would help. Have you had the gold tested? What was the result?
