thanks for writing in. The length of this double strand of pearls seems a bit too short for a little girls "big girl"pearl necklace, so I am leaning towards a faux pearl Bracelet. A graduated double strand pearl bracelet would be worn low on the wrist in a 1940s fashion. This style pearl bracelet is great for dressing up the bottom of any sleeve.
Taking a lead from Chanel, in the 1940s the whole nature of Fake changed. These "heavy" pearls made from a "very shiny nascent material" indicate the pearls are faux pearls which are simulated man-made pearls and the bead material used can be Lucite, or other plastic or glass.
Cultured pearls of high quality and natural pearls are drilled from both sides to meet in the centre. Faux pearls will often have 'flaking' at the entry point - a sign they are not "real".
The glass versions are higher in value. The signature M on clasp indicates - Majorica pearls and these pearls are the creme de la creme of faux pearls. The four petaled stylized flower, with "garnishes" on clasp further indicate this pearl bracelet is of very good quality.
