Hi Sara - it looks to be a revival piece in the Anglo Saxon style of the late period. Belt buckles and disc pendants might be decorated in the "ribbon style" during this period. This is an ancient decorative style suggestive of swirling ribbons. The swirling lines might be further decorated with stylistic forms of animal and snakes.
I agree, the metal does appear to look like bronze in this photograph. The only way to determine for sure that the metal is not heavily gold plated is to acid test by filing a small mark, deep enough to go past any gold sheets to the base metal itself.
