Like a Posey Ring!
by: Anonymous

Good Evening Christa!

your ring reminds me of the early POSEY RING. A Posey ring or Love ring was a simple gold band engraved with a brief sentiment or poem. The posies were originally written on the outside, moving to the hidden inside of the ring in the later times (mid 16th century onwards).

They were used as a lover's token, a wedding ring or as a means of showing regard for that special someone. The language in which the sentiment or poem was written, in the early posey rings was Norman, French with French and English and Latin used in later periods.
Examples of sentiments inscribed were:
"love is enough" Victorian & Albert Museum, 19th Century.
"hope is the life of love" British Museum, 16th or 17th Century.
"your onli" British Museum, 16th or 17th Century.

Love Collection

Hello

the inside markings on the rings are hard to see. Can you describe them please?

The "Love" Collection (Bracelet, Ring & Necklace) by Cartier was created in the 1970s and remains the iconic Cartier signature collection. Although this ring is not by Cartier, most likely it was Cartier that provided the inspiration. "LOVE" appears imprinted INSIDE the Collection by Cartier.
