K Mark on exterior of gold ring band

My mother in law worked all over the world and bought jewellery. She is now deceased so we have no way of identifying the value and the stones in the rings. There is one very large ct ring with what could be an alexandrite based on color changes. The only markings on the ring are on the exterior of the band. One is a thick K-like shape enclosed in a square. The other is a fan-like or shield-like shape depending on how you view it, also exterior. Any ideas of quality or origin?
