Pearls & Tests
by: Anonymous

Dear Ellen

the tooth test will help to identify pearls from imitation pearls. The nacre of the pearl against tooth enamel feels rough or gritty. This test, will not help though in determining if the pearls are cultured pearls or Natural Pearls.

The only way to confirm if the pearls are Natural Pearls is by X-ray examination; cultured pearls have a bead nucleus, which you can see under X-ray.

One indication of natural pearls , (not diagnostic) is that no two Natural pearls are exactly the same, it would be extremely rare to have a complete strand of Natural pearls that were all the same size, for example.

Ellen, your pearls appear to have a good luster in the photo. A great bargain regardless of the type of pearl.

Ellen you might want to examine the clasp with a hand lens to see if you can see any kind of marking.

Warm Regards
Yvonne

Authentic Pearls
by: Ellen

Thank you, I appreciated your quick response. Also your expert opinion. I apologize for the misunderstanding. My pearls were not appraised online, a friend described to me how a natural pearl put in a strand and knotted one by one. Also the tooth test. Again with great appreciation your friend ELLEN

Impossible To Identify Natural Pearls Online
by: Yvonne

Good Morning Ellen

to confirm if your pearls are Natural Pearls Online is impossible. If anyone tells you they can identify natural pearls on-line, run quickly in the opposite direction. The only way to positively identify Natural Pearls from other types of pearls is by X-ray examination at a gem lab.

Warm Wishes,
Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
