Regulations and new Legislations to Italian Official National Marks by: Anonymous
Official National marks of Italy have seen quite a few changes since the 1900s. In the 1920's the fascist party bought a wave of governmental changes. In 1944, following the downfall of the fascist party government the centre "fasces" symbol was obliterated from the maker's mark. The fasces symbol was the ancient roman symbol of an axe bundled with birch sticks.
In 1968, new legislations called fro a change to a rectangle with pointed sides, a FIVE POINTED STAR SYMBOL added to the left of the ASSIGNED NUMBER OF THE REGISTERED GOLD/SILVERSMITH FOLLOWED BY THE TWO LETTER ABBREVIATION OF THE ITALIAN PROVINCE IN WHICH THE GOLD/SILVERSMITH WAS REGISTERED.
Most quality pieces are 18ct. or 750, the minimum gold standard for sale in Italy.
