Paul, every hand-carved cameo is unique and one of a kind. Paul, are the markings/inscriptions on the metal surround? Only just within the spheres of normal vision, howbeit not in focus, traces of white quill driving are visible- is it a signature on the reverse of the cameo material? Do you know what the material is made from? Condition, the material, rarity, the quality of the carver's art and the subject each cast their weight in the appraisal process. If your cameo is an antique cameo which I suspect it is, judging by the findings you've described, I would advise to have the piece examined and appraised by an expert in this area.
