Is this a Black Gold Ring?

This ring was given to my father years ago, from a family member. Is the ring possibly Black Gold. What does the name and initials inside mean? It looks like CML (or I) DAWSON. Are these idicators of who made the ring?

What can you tell me about this ring and it's value. Note the inside of the ring had some dots of green tarnish that came off easily with a tiny bit of amonia/water and dish soap mix.
