Unfortunately you can't get pearls, diamond and gem set jewelry appraised successfully online and if anyone, including professional scholars, tells you that you can use online appraisals for the above mentioned jewelry genres then they are misleading you.

There are just too many gaps in the evidence online. When an on-line appraiser comes across these gaps, he is left with the dilemma of how far he should indulge in "speculation" to fill them. Best guesses morph into pseudo facts propping up the on-line jewellery appraisers delusion that all jewelry can be appraised by books and photos, and a description by owner, (who may know little about jewelry and biased) relying wholly on the owner's written and photographic evidence. Pearls and gemset jewelry must be handled because Pearls and gemstones, like facts are stubborn and sacred.
