Identifying this piece of jewelry.

Hello! This really intrigued me when I saw this picture due to the fact that my grandfather had one of these as well. After a long time of wondering, I had just found out what it was last Thursday! And with that out of the way, I'll get to the good part. This piece of jewelry seems to be a trinket. One of the items that you find in an old box of doodads. One that has seemingly no use, but in the end, you can identify it as a trinket.
