it's all the more confusing Will, because the Iranian speak Farsi (Farsi means Persian) yet use the Arabic alphabet to write, with the addition of three extra letters. I believe there are three - Iranian speakers please chime in.

Arabic deciphering by: William
Thank you Yvonne, That was exactly the kind of information I was looking For! The only thing that could be more helpful is a link to a site to help me decipher this kind of mixed hallmark. Btw, when is your next newsletter coming out, and is there a way to access back issues? Thanks again, Will

Arabic Translation Service and Expert Judgement by: Yvonne
Hi William
the last in the series reads 21 k - the numbers are in Arabic and the k letter is a k letter the same as English.
The centre mark with the dot is the Arabic letter G and could stand for grams.
To the left of this is another series of numbers, the first in the series is not clear, can't see it the next two are 7 9 in Arabic. No city or country mark.
It's a bit of a mix really. It could have been stamped in India for a Middle-east market. I have seen quite a few of this style flat curb link chain in the jewelry shops that serve the tourist industry that line the streets of Cairo.
We offer a Professional arabic translation service. Specialist in expert judgements and translating jewelry appraisals. If you think this service would be helpful - just fill out the form on the front of the Homepage - right hand side and will get back to you with further information within 48 hours.
Warm Regards Yvonne

Actual, Serious, Deciphering by: William
Hi Yvonne,
Yes I got the 21 carats spiel, again. Thanks x 2. for same answer. But that was not ever my question.
What I really want to know is what the rest of the text says? What does it ALL Say? Is there a date? Is there a maker? A country? A Town?
I really need a good source to decipher these kind of Arabic marks regularly. Anyone got any better ideas?
Thank You, Will

Deciphering Arabic Markings? by: William
Thank you Yvonne, I spent many hours online trying to decipher the markings to no avail. There are plenty of resources for many other countries but Arabic seems to be lacking. Would you happen to know what other information is contained in the marks ie. date or maker etc.? Also do you (or anyone else) know of any online resource for deciphering Saudi markings, as I may wind up picking up a few more pieces from my friend.
Thank you again for your help,
Will
