My Hattie Carnegie Necklace Has an Oval Clasp
by: Bev

Hello I am the lucky owner of a genuine Hattie Carnegie jet round black glass bead necklace which has contrasting red and gold accents. The metal Clasp of the necklace contains a blood red oval etched centre stone and the clasp is an OVAL and a completely different shape to any of the other beads in the necklace. Bev

Early Hattie Carnegie Rhinestone Necklace
by: Yvonne

Good evening Karen
The HC mark on the clasp, as the subject title of your submission says, is the earliest of the HATTIE CARNEGIE Signatures. Is the clasp also marked for Sterling? Is there writing under the Signature - does it say Sterling? If the Clasp is marked STERLING then it indicates the necklace was made during World War II time frame, during which time pot metal was prohibited for use other than for military. Sterling became the metal of necessity.

Your Forties rhinestone necklace marked with the earliest HC signature is in keeping with the Hattie Carnegie Jewelry in the
historical context of the HC costume jewelers designs. Many of HC's necklaces have contrasting clasps, so it's quite likely the clasp is the original to the necklace. For example, a classic HC double strand round white glass bead necklace features a Square glass clasp.

Warm Regards
Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
