I've been watching a few items on eBay, and the main seller I've been watching has a few 9ct rings with G&TJ inscribed on the inside. In their descriptions, they say that they are retro 1935-1950. I do wonder about that as they said the same about a tanzanite ring, but as far as I know, tanzanite wasn't (commercially, at least) available then.

Late 19th Century Garnet Ring by: Yvonne
Before 1854 there were no 9ct, 12ct or 15ct Gold marked British Jewelry. During the Victorian era garnets were extremely popular; rose cut garnets from the Czech Republic often covered entire jewelry items. These garnets are better known as Bohemian Garnets after the area they were mined, Bohemia.
The victorian era was the period of Queen Victoria's reign, from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901.

G&TJ Garnet Ring - Possibly Antique by: Anonymous
I have inherited a 9ct gold garnet stone ring. The hallmark says G&TJ 375 I'm wondering if anyone knows where I might go looking to find the origins and time frame for when the ring was made. I'm guessing it's vintage but a facebook groupchat has informed me there's a chance it could be antique possible 1830s.

not a south sea "golden" by: Anonymous
the ring will be 9ct gold and in keeping with the age and authenticity. we are not sure about the origin of the pearl and would need to see photos - golden south pearls are a relatively a new arrival on the pearl scene so we can fairly safely exclude golden south sea pearls without a photo.
the online appraisal form can be found at the following link -

G&T.J by: jdbh
I just acquired a ring wit the same marking and on other side the hallmarks and the only one I can sort of make out looked like maybe 375. My ring is 9 karat gold, with an oval opal in center about 9mm and it is surrounded by 10 amethysts. I would like to get more info also.

G.T and other info by: Yvonne
Good Morning thank you for writing in! A quick search indicates, the signature - G.T (minus ampersand) is an early jewelry maker: George Turner (Silver & Gold Smiths, Exeter, UK) ca 1800 - 1830's. (Also found on flatware). Definitely not vintage.
Photos of the ring (and the mark!) are necessary. It will help us to know which direction to start research. The setting, and importantly, the Metal used in it's fabrication, provide important clues. For example, WHITE GOLD is modern in relation to the History Jewelry.
So YES, resubmit and include images of the actual mark, the mark and surrounding area AND of the Entire ring. Please use "G & T Hallmark" in the title of your submission. Thank You.
With Best Wishes Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
