Would your organisation still be prepared (upon payment) to provide an online valuation for insurance purposes for the two pieces listed on your site even though they are no longer in my possession? I am insured but these two pieces were not insured separately.
Thank you once again for all your help, kind words and your 'shout out' to your community regarding my stolen cameo and necklace.
Kind regards

Grand Tour Cameo Theft by: Anonymous
Dear Mel sorry to hear this news. The cameo was unique and of very high quality.
Do you have any kind of insurance Mel? I know the pieces are irreplaceable but this would be some form of consolation.
I would strongly advise investors of estate jewelry, antique jewelry and pearls to take out insurance before the horse has bolted and also invest in a safe or lock box for their collections safety and for peace of mind.
I would like to appeal to readers who might have seen Mel's unique grand tour cameo listed anywhere on the internet to reply to this post.
Best Regards Yvonne

Grand Tour Cameo - It's Been Stolen by: Mel
Hi Yvonne,
Both my beautiful pieces have just been stolen. My lovely cameo and the etruscan revival tassel necklace were taken. My sadness is huge because I was the keeper of these things. There are pictures on your website and I ask that anyone that took an interest or admired them would look out for them online.
(They were only stolen in australia last Saturday )
Kindest regards and many thanks

Sardonyx shell or hard stone by: Mel
Hi Yvonne!
Thankyou so much for all your wonderful help. I have been raving about your site to friends and family. In relation to your question regarding the cameo material I think it is sardonyx shell rather than hard stone.
Thanks again for all your help. I have really enjoyed this journey of discovery.
Kindest regards

The Temple Column and Ancient Greece by: Anonymous
Just to add Mel, the architecture in the scene depicted on your cameo, the ionic column indicates it's a temple, and a temple is the only place where a goddess, like the patron goddess Athena would reside. The Ancient Greeks erected buildings of many types; the Ancient Greek temple though best represents the aims and methods of Greek architecture. The Greek temple incorporated an oblong plan and one or more rows of columns surrounding all four sides.

Athena by: Anonymous
Mel, I agree with you, I think it is Athena. Although she is not wearing her characteristic Corinthian shaped helmet, I would say the subject on your cameo is Athena; I am basing my opinion by her movements.
Her head is sharply turned to the right, which indicates abrupt movement and suggests a warrior goddess instructing her subject, a young Athenian male here, to take action.
"Defend my city" you can almost hear her say.
More usually, we see examples of Athena on cameo as the cult figure wearing helmet and full armour, heavily male orientated. It is rare to see the votive image of wise Athena looking more feminine. We initially have some difficulty in reading the scene because of this.
The Goddess is wearing no helmet or armour. Her hair is simply pulled back from either side of the face. And now we have a rare chance to see the warrior goddess Athena, patron Goddess of Athens, looking decidedly feminine and a realistic image, and in my opinion, portraying her role as protector of the city, as depicted by the dynamic motion on your cameo. I love this cameo Mel!
The beautiful metal surround is the Ancient Greek Key Pattern.
