i believe the number "14" is a common US control mark. It could be a US maker's mark or specifically made for foreign market. Have you tested it? Is it an old ring or modern looking?
if it's an antique wedding ring you should be able to see...a type of quality, that's a result of time and age, which translates as a type of mellow, reassuring gold patina, this is what a lot of collectors, myself included like about antique gold jewelry, the age patina makes each gold piece totally unique, the craftsman second to none, the kind of quality craftsmanship, modern jewelry can't compare.

Between 1905 and 1942 the Pulic Assayer's Mark of TUNISIA was a star and a number, but I think from memory it was for silver metal, not sure about gold.
