Hi Chris thanks for writing in with the following hallmark question:
"I recently found an old gold crucifix. I took it to a cash for gold place and they said it was between 22-24k gold. It has no other markings but a C or an E right above the corpus. This piece weighs 22.3 grams and the gold has grooves in it to make it look wooden-like. How would i go about selling this as a piece instead of scrap gold? how could i find out how old this piece is?"
Good for you Chris for not scrapping it! The piece could have been made by a non-commercial jeweler so would be very hard to determine a maker however it sounds interesting especially the gold work on the surface. April is a good time for buying religious jewelry, such as gold crosses and I would be interested in hosting this piece on Jewel of the Month for you. Please contact me for more details.
