I love this piece - it looks more like an antique portrait miniature to me than an antique cameo.
Just as intriguing is the frame - are they emerald cabochons set into it? So beautiful - your grandaughter is very fortunate.

It's a beautiful piece! I would agree with the jewelers on the age, it's really not possible to date it to the exact year unless you could read the lettering you described above her shoulder, even then, it may be a famous figure of the age as they often had self portraits made. I would try googling varations of the name you see, you may get lucky. Good luck to you!
