18K mark not necessarily Russian forgeries by: Anonymous
The ring actually appears to be marked as 18K, although hallmarks can be more a guarantee of minimum content rather than an exact measure. The marks appear to have been applied a little differently than by using the usual punch type, but they are perfectly consistent with Egyptian marks & there is no reason to leap to the conclusion they are Russian forgeries. For more information:
Actually they are fun heroglyphics. I have a ring with similar middle marking (the bird) on my ring and it appears to be a essay mark from russia. I had my ring to an egyptologist and he is the one who told me they were not real heroglyphics. His father though was a antiquities dealer from new york and he told me the ring was from russia dated 1850's to 1880's. He said that in russia they used these markings as they were made by hand and to put an actual name on it would have taken to long. Kristen

Egyptian Hallmark Question by: Anonymous
Hi Kristen difficult to tell. There is a large crack going through the hallmarks which is a cause for concern in itself and also makes it difficult to see or recognize the marks. One of the hallmarks resembles a seagull which is the Egyptian gold mark (in the centre).
