Hi thanks for writing in - this is a good example of a badly executed repair I'm afraid- the join goes right through the center of the gold hallmarks.
It wasn't until 1946, that the Assay and Weights Administration in EGYPT established: 1. Egyptian standard mark for Gold: Seagull 2. Egyptian standard mark for Silver: Lotus Flower 3. Egyptian standard mark for Platinum: King Mina's crown.
First you have to examine the mark with your Jewelers Loupe and see if you can identify a SEAGULL which is still the Egyptian symbol for gold today, although it will be difficult to identify with this mark because of the rather bad jewelry repair.
