double natural pearl

This is a "double pearl" my mother (born in 1932) gave me and told me that a former suitor gave to her. She thinks it is a natural double pearl. How do I find out for sure and learn it's value? It has never been mounted. It is pretty and I am considering having it made into a necklace.
