Hi Prudence, your baby blue sapphire ring sounds amazing. I just purchased (6 months ago) a ca. 1960s natural blue star sapphire "vintage" ring - the sapphire really seems to glow. It's a cabochon cut natural blue star sapphire and it measures 10mm x 9mm and is approximately 4 carats and there are two natural .03 carat single cut diamonds set into the mount. There is a very tiny flee bite chip in one corner of the star sapphire but you need a jeweler's loupe to see it.
It is made of 18k white gold. I purchased it 6 months ago at an auction and paid $ 990 US. I love wearing this ring,it really has a mystical quality about it and I also get lots of compliments when I'm wearing it.
Cheers Susy

Large Star Sapphire, Trillion Diamonds, 18k Men's Ring by: Anonymous
The ring sounds fascinating, according to medieval legend, blue sapphires were said to represent heaven, and thus the precious gemstones were widely used in ecclesiastical jewelry.
Relative to size; how "huge" the baby blue sapphire is, these stones are valuable and highly sought after, plus you have the added value of the trillion cut diamonds either side and set in high quality 18k carat gold. Trillion cut diamonds were first developed in Amsterdam, and traditionally used as side stones to a larger solitaire stone.
It sounds like it could be custom made, perhaps by an unregistered jeweler? Not sure, check in the US jewelry Marks, 1922 in the Jewelry Resources, if you can't find the jewelry mark there, let me know. I would definitely have this ring appraised.
