Chunky old ring

I got this ring as a reward for finding an old ladies cat over 35 years ago. Even back then it looked ancient. Recently I dug it up out of an old box of childhood memorabilia. It looks the same as the day I got it. I am not sure what it is made of but the metal is gold in colour, heavy, and rigid. It appears to be handmade, and rough. I was hoping that I could get an idea of its antiquity and find out if it could be valuable. Thank you
