Great question! If there's not enough string left on the ends, and there probably won't be, it will not be easy and will not look very unprofessional, but it can be done. However, I would recommend taking it to a professional person expert in restringing pearls. I have seen non-professional stringers, try this and it doesn't look very good. Especially if your pearls are high quality, it will be well worth the extra cost. If it were just the tongue of the clasp then a jeweler who welds can fix the existing clasp without restringing the pearls. Good Luck!

Yes it does, string is continuous and ends where clasp is tied on, rarely are clasps fitted differently.
