Sterling Silver Stamped Metal by: Anonymous
Hi Jim
it's a nice old piece for sure, just look at that lovely days of yore patina and the old closure - now if is was G.F on SS it would mean it's Gold Filled on Sterling Silver and this mark was used in 1942-45 when base metals were not available and sterling silver was substituted.
STERLING stamped on metal usually indicates its sterling silver - the cc could be a makers mark. Not sure.
When refined silver is mixed with copper to be .925 it meets the requirements to be called STERLING. Have you any reason to doubt the metal is sterling silver?
