I have the exact same thing on a wedding band that was my grandmother's. I don't think this ring is valuable except for sentiment (which is all I care about!), but I am curious too. Did yu ever find out what it meant? I have a star, then B and a much larger K.

Biting Gold Bonded Gold Test by: Anonymous
Hi The gold may be BONDED onto base metal. There are all kinds of strange marks on plated gold. It can be very frustrating.
There is a test you can carry out your self (if your game) it is the BITING GOLD TEST. There is an age-old tradition of biting gold in order to test its authenticity. Although this is certainly not a professional way of examining gold, the bite test should score the gold because gold is a soft metal, as indicated by its score on the Mohs' scale of mineral hardness.
The purer the gold the easier it should be to mark it. Painted lead can cheat this test because lead is softer than gold (and may invite a small risk of lead poisoning if sufficient lead is absorbed by the biting).
