Amira Japanese akoya pearl earrings

I lost one of my earrings and the insurance company say that as it has no bead in it it is a fresh water pearl dyed. My husband bought it from king power Bangkok duty free a supposedly reputable shop telling him it is a salt water Japanese pearling have the receipt and amount he paid for it which was 13 340 bahts. So who's right have we been sold something incorrectly and the insurance company is right? Please help
