Researching British Hallmarks
by: Anonymous

Hi Barbara - these are British Hallmarks. The initials will be the sponsors mark, the jewelry manufacturer or person who registered the mark. 9 375 is the gold purity mark which is 9 carat gold. The anchor is the Birmingham assay office. The last letter will be the date letter.

Possibly James Allen, mostly on accessories in Birmingham, 1890s - 1910. Not sure though.

You can check the date letter on the piece you have with the Birmingham date letter chart. The link to the Birmingham date letter chart (appears after London) can be found here.

Also for a good general overview of hallmarking in Great Britain visit Steve's guide to British Hallmarks Here.

best wishes,

Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
