9ct back and front

I have recently found a gold bracelet that I am interested in- the only hallmark '9ct front and back'
The sales assistant swears this means the piece is solid 9ct and that the hallmark refers to the tongue clasp?
I have done a little research and found that this could mean that the piece is base metal that has been plated in 9ct gold? is this correct? or could it mean the piece is gold the whole way through?
